What to shoot at a taqueria
Mexican food photographs well because it's colorful, so let the color do the work. Plain plates, a clean table and daylight are enough. Garnish right before you shoot so the cilantro looks fresh.
- Tacos in a row from straight above, so each filling shows.
- A full plate with rice, beans and a salsa on the side, from a slight angle.
- The salsa bar or salsas lined up, for color.
- Short clips at the plancha, the comal or the trompo.
- Drinks from the side, with the glass catching the light.
A calendar with the big dates built in
Start with the weekly anchor: Taco Tuesday, posted Monday night and Tuesday morning. Then put the big dates on the calendar as soon as you plan the year: Cinco de Mayo on May 5, Mexican Independence Day on September 16 and National Taco Day on October 4. Make those posts two or three weeks ahead and schedule them.
Between those dates, rotate a dish video, a new drink and a Reel from a busy night. With the weekly post already set up, filling the rest of the week takes one sitting.
