A crew member is an all-around quick-service team member who takes orders, prepares food, and keeps the restaurant clean. Crew members work across stations and are the main workforce of fast food and fast-casual restaurants. Here is what the job looks like across a shift, in the order it happens.
Opening duties
- Wash hands, put on your uniform, and clock in on time
- Stock your station with ingredients, packaging, and utensils
- Check equipment such as fryers, grills, and drink machines
- Verify food temperatures and date labels for the opening checklist
- Join the shift huddle to hear goals, promotions, and station assignments
During service
- Greet guests or take orders at your assigned position
- Prepare food to the recipe card and brand standards
- Package orders correctly and confirm them against the ticket
- Call out low stock before you run out
- Keep your station clean and organized as you work
- Move to a new station when the shift leader asks
- Help with drive-thru, counter, or lobby when the line gets long
Closing duties
- Break down and clean your station thoroughly
- Empty, clean, and refill equipment as the closing checklist requires
- Wrap, label, and store leftover food properly
- Sweep and mop the kitchen and dining room
- Take out trash and recycling and report any needed repairs
Weekly duties
- Complete deep cleaning tasks such as hood filters, floor drains, or shelving
- Attend training sessions on new menu items or safety
- Rotate through new stations to cross-train
- Review your schedule and request time off ahead of time
