Pizza Marketing: Win Delivery, Pickup and Game Day Orders

Pizza is one of the most delivered foods in the country, which means your customers are already used to ordering on a phone. The question is whether they order from you or from a marketplace that charges you for the privilege.

This guide covers family deals, game days, pickup versus delivery and moving repeat orders to your own channel.

Pizza is a night and weekend business

Pizza demand peaks at dinner, on Fridays and Saturdays, on Sundays during football season and around big events. Tickets are shared, which means a family order is worth more than a single slice and the decision maker is often a parent or the host of a gathering.

Marketing should meet that person at the moment of the decision, usually a text conversation or a quick search on a phone at 5 p.m. Make sure your hours, phone number and ordering link show correctly on your Google Business Profile, since that is often where the search ends.

Delivery, pickup and the app problem

Third party marketplaces bring orders, but they also take a fee and own the customer relationship. A guest who always orders through the app may not even remember your name. Direct orders keep more of each ticket and let you contact customers later.

You do not have to quit marketplaces overnight. A common approach is to keep them for reach but make your own channel the better deal for repeat guests, using a small perk, a loyalty reward or a free side. Put a note in every box and bag that tells people where to order directly next time.

Ten ideas for a pizza shop

Pizza offers should be easy to say aloud on the phone and easy to tap on a screen. If an offer needs a paragraph of rules, it is too complicated.

  • A family bundle with two pizzas, a side and a drink at a clear round price.
  • A game day deal with a deadline, such as order by noon for a kickoff pickup window.
  • A lunch special for slices and a drink, aimed at nearby offices and schools.
  • A deal for local teams, with a team order form and a pickup time.
  • A midweek discount that only applies on direct orders.
  • A reward program that gives a free item after a set number of direct orders.
  • A pickup window with a posted wait time on busy nights.
  • A limited monthly specialty pie, announced on social media and by text.
  • A fundraiser night for a school or league, with a fixed percentage and a clear date.
  • A box insert with a QR code to your ordering page.

Game days and big nights

Football Sundays, playoff games and school events are your busiest planned moments. Announce your game day offer early in the week, set a cutoff for preorders and limit the menu to items that travel and hold well. Staff and oven capacity set the ceiling, so promise pickup times you can keep.

Write down the number of boxes you can bake and pack per hour, then set the preorder cap just below it. A late pizza on kickoff day does more damage than a sold-out sign. After the season, send a thank you and a nudge to order for the next big event.

Family deals without margin damage

A family bundle should feel generous while raising the average ticket. Combine a high-margin side and a drink with the pizzas, and avoid discounting the base item too deeply. Keep the number of bundles small so the staff can remember them and the counter screen can show them clearly.

Review your bundles every few months. If one never sells, replace it.

Servestack and Studio for pizza

Servestack offers commission-free online ordering on the restaurant's own site, two-way POS sync with Toast, Square and Clover, and loyalty and SMS and email tools, which fit the repeat-order pattern of a pizza shop. Studio can build a game day flyer, a menu poster, social posts and a reel of the oven, using your name, logo, brand color and menu.

A 30 day plan

Put the direct channel first and add promotions on top.

  • Week 1: add a QR code and a note to every box, and set a direct-order perk.
  • Week 2: launch a family bundle and track how many are sold.
  • Week 3: announce a game day offer with a cutoff time.
  • Week 4: send a text or email to past customers with the direct-order perk and review your channel mix.

FAQs

Frequently asked
questions

How can I get customers to order directly instead of through apps?
Make direct ordering the better deal with a small perk, a loyalty reward and a QR code in every box. Keep marketplaces for reach if you wish.
What are the best pizza deals?
Family bundles, game day preorders and lunch slice combos all work when they raise the ticket and are easy to understand.
How should I handle busy nights?
Limit the menu, post realistic wait times and set cutoffs for preorders. Quality and honest timing build repeat business.
Do I need to stop using delivery apps?
Not necessarily. Many shops use them for discovery while steering repeat guests to their own channel.
How often should I send promotions?
A few messages a week at the most, tied to real events such as game days or a new pie. Always get consent and offer an opt-out.
