Also called: drive thru cashier
What a drive-thru operator does
Drive-thru operators are the voice and face of a quick-service restaurant for guests in cars. They greet customers at the speaker, enter orders correctly, handle payments at the window, and coordinate with the kitchen to keep lines moving. Speed of service is measured closely, so operators learn to be fast without sounding rushed, to repeat orders back, and to check bags before handing them off. The job is repetitive but fast-paced, and strong operators often move into shift leader roles because they understand the whole flow of the store.
Pay snapshot: the BLS reports a national median of $15.00/hr for fast food and counter workers, and $17.45/hr in the Boston metro. See the full salary breakdown.
