A restaurant delivery driver takes orders from the kitchen to customers' homes and offices and keeps food hot, accurate, and on time. Opening duties
- Check the vehicle for fuel, cleanliness, and any safety issues
- Gather insulated bags, a phone charger, and any payment devices
- Review the day's delivery zones, specials, and any app or POS updates
- Check in with the manager about expected volume and delivery times
- Confirm change or cash banks if the restaurant uses them
During service
- Pick up orders and verify items, sauces, and drinks against the ticket
- Sort and stack bags to make deliveries efficient
- Choose the best route when carrying more than one order
- Deliver orders to the door or the customer's preferred location
- Collect payments and tips and report any issues to the manager
- Call or text customers when you cannot find the address or must reschedule
- Return to the restaurant promptly and help the kitchen or front of house when slow
Closing duties
- Return remaining orders and report any missed or returned deliveries
- Turn in cash, receipts, or payment logs and reconcile with the manager
- Wipe down insulated bags and tidy the car's delivery area
- Note any customer issues or road hazards for the next shift
- Help the closing crew with side work if needed
Weekly duties
- Check the vehicle's oil, tires, and brakes to keep it safe and reliable
- Update mileage records and expense reports if reimbursed
- Review delivery times and customer feedback with the manager
