What a banquet server does
Banquet servers set up event spaces, serve plated or buffet meals to large groups, and break down after the event. Unlike regular servers, they work from a banquet event order that lists the menu, timing, and guest count, and they serve in coordinated teams so a whole room gets food at once. The job is physical and fast, with heavy trays and tight timing, and it rewards people who are polished, calm, and good at working in sync. Shifts are tied to events, so schedules vary week to week.
Pay snapshot: the BLS reports a national median of $17.00/hr for nonrestaurant food servers, and $17.95/hr in the Boston metro. See the full salary breakdown.
