Generate restaurant names

Before you fall in love with a name: search it with your city attached, check the state trademark database and USPTO, and make sure the domain and Instagram handle are free.

What makes a good restaurant name

The best restaurant names are easy to say, easy to spell, and easy to rememberafter one mention. Every extra syllable and every ambiguous spelling costs you word-of-mouth referrals and search traffic. “Where did you eat?” should have a one-breath answer.

  • Say it out loud. If staff will answer the phone with it, it can't be awkward.
  • Check the map. A name already used by a restaurant in your metro is a non-starter — for trademarks and for Google.
  • Leave room to grow. “Main Street Tacos” gets complicated when you open the second location on Oak Ave.
  • Think about search. A distinctive name ranks; a generic phrase (“Best Pizza”) never owns its own results page.

Before you commit

Search the name plus your city, check your state's business registry and the USPTO trademark database, and confirm the domain and Instagram handle are available. A matching .com is nice; a clean, consistent handle across platforms matters more.

Once the name is real, it needs a home your competitors' ads can't reach: your own website and your own ordering channel— not just a profile inside a delivery marketplace where you're listed next to them.

FAQs

Frequently asked
questions

How do I check if a restaurant name is taken?
Search the name with your city on Google and Maps, check your state's business entity registry, search the USPTO trademark database, and check domain and social handle availability. Do all four before printing anything.
Should my restaurant name describe the cuisine?
It helps discovery but isn't required — a distinctive name plus a clear tagline ('Ember — wood-fired Korean BBQ') usually beats a generic descriptive name for memorability and search.
Does my restaurant name affect SEO?
Yes. A unique name means your restaurant owns its search results and Maps listing outright. A generic name competes with every similarly named business in the country for your own brand searches.
Is this name generator free?
Completely — no signup, no email. Generate as many rounds as you like; everything runs in your browser.
