We checked Toast's official pricing, hardware, payments and online ordering pages on October 11, 2026. Where Toast does not publish a number, such as processing rates or the Digital Storefront subscription, we say so and use a clearly labeled third-party report instead of guessing.

What the Toast plans cost
As of October 2026, Toast's pricing page shows three restaurant paths. The Starter Kit starts at $0 per month for a single location that needs one or two terminals, and the hardware kit has no upfront cost. The Point of Sale plan starts at $69 per month as a software subscription, and you choose your own hardware. Build Your Own is custom priced and is where Toast places features such as inventory, payroll, scheduling, guest marketing, loyalty and gift cards.
Every price on the page is labeled "starting at," so treat each one as a floor rather than a quote. Toast Care support is included in every software subscription at no extra cost, open 24/7/365 by phone or web messaging.
Hardware, setup and the fees people miss
Toast says the upfront costs are hardware and implementation, and they vary by package. It offers 0% interest financing by application, and a Pay-as-You-Go option inside the Starter package that lowers upfront cost through an all-in-one platform rate. Toast Easy Pay lets you cover hardware, implementation, shipping and taxes with a daily percentage of sales over 180 days, with no interest or fees and no credit check.
Toast also states that its services may only be used on devices it approves, so you generally cannot reuse older POS hardware.
- NerdWallet (updated August 6, 2026) reports a Toast Tap card reader at $149, a Toast Go 3 handheld at $599, a Handheld Starter Kit at $1,113 and a Countertop Starter Kit at $1,203, each listed as $0 with a higher processing fee.
- NerdWallet reports on-site setup at $1,000 per day and remote installation at $800 per day.
- NerdWallet reports contracts of two to three years. We found no published early termination terms, so ask for the order form before you sign.
Toast payment processing rates
Toast's pricing page says its plans include simple, flat-rate processing but does not print the rate. Its fee page says Toast builds a custom rate for each restaurant, and that card-not-present orders such as online ordering, third-party delivery and phone orders cost more than in-person payments because of fraud risk.
NerdWallet reports the following, and these are third-party figures, not a Toast quote. With hardware paid upfront, card-present is 2.49% plus 15 cents and card-not-present is 3.50% plus 15 cents. On pay-as-you-go, NerdWallet reports 3.09% to 3.69% plus 15 cents per transaction. Your own rate may differ, so get it in writing.
Toast Online Ordering and delivery fees
Toast says its online ordering has "No commissions. No hidden fees." Online ordering comes in Digital Storefront Essentials, alongside Toast Delivery Services and the Local by Toast app. Digital Storefront Pro adds Toast Websites, custom online ordering and SEO features. Toast does not publish a price for either tier, and NerdWallet also describes online ordering subscriptions as quote-based.
For delivery, Toast Delivery Services uses on-demand Uber and DoorDash drivers. Toast says there is no additional upfront cost and you pay a flat fee per order, and you can pass part of the fee to guests. The amount is not published, so ask for it.
Who Toast fits
Toast is a strong choice if you want one vendor for POS, payments, payroll, scheduling, kitchen display and online ordering, and you are comfortable buying Toast hardware. Offline mode, 24/7 support and a $0 starter option suit a new single-location restaurant.
How Servestack differs
Servestack is the ordering and marketing layer, not a POS. It charges a flat monthly price with zero per-order commission, and it works with Toast, Square, Clover and other POS systems, so you can keep Toast and add a branded website, ordering, loyalty and SMS and email marketing on top. Card processing applies on any platform. For a POS and payroll under one roof, Toast is built for that.
Example: 400 online orders at $30 each
- A hypothetical single-location restaurant, not a quote.
- $12,000 in online sales in a month: 400 orders averaging $30.
- Point of Sale plan at $69 per month, with hardware bought upfront.
- Online card rate as reported by NerdWallet: 3.50% plus 15 cents per transaction.
- Digital Storefront and Toast Delivery Services are quote-based and excluded.
| Point of Sale software subscription | $69 |
| Online card processing, 3.50% of $12,000 | $420 |
| Online card processing, 15 cents on 400 orders | $60 |
| Digital Storefront subscription (online ordering) | Not published |
| Toast Delivery Services flat fee per order | Not published |
| Estimated total | $549 per month, plus the unpublished add-ons |
Hardware is a one-time cost on top of this: NerdWallet reports $1,203 for a Countertop Starter Kit. In-person sales would add their own, lower card-present processing. Your actual quote will differ.
